Nose is classic Mourvedre with notes of plum skin, figs, porcini mushrooms, incense, dusty cowboy boot, old cedar chest, and freshly turned loam. This varietal is known for its astringent tannins but this rendition has very sweet tannins and a chalky, mineral inflected finish that is very refreshing. Exotic flavors of soy sauce, plum sauce, hoisin, garrigue, and meat drippings are typical of this varietal and show strongly in this rendition. Mourvedre is a varietal that fruit notes are hard to come by and secondary and tertiary notes take the main stage and this version does not disappoint. Should age gracefully for 10-12 years.
